We were on Gone Medieval!
Another fun chat about vikings with Eleanor Janega....this time on her podcast
What a cool thrill and honor to be invited to speak about the vikings on History Hit’s Gone Medieval Podcast!
Last time we spoke with historian Eleanor Janega on Vikingology, we learned from her about the viking descendants known as the Normans. This time the tables were turned, as she wanted to pick our brains about the causes of the Viking Age, a subject that we think about a lot here at Vikingology.
There have been lots of reasons suggested over the years for why in the late-700s AD Scandinavians seem suddenly to have burst out onto the world scene in their badass ships with swords and shields in hand to get up to all sorts of mischief. What on earth made them do it? Money, climate, ship technology, politics?? The gods?
Listen to our episode and hear us weigh in on this intriguing and enduring question about the creation of one of the world’s most iconic events, the Viking Age.
And then watch (or rewatch!) our fun chat with Eleanor about the Normans for a double dose of viking fun and to see the legacy left behind by those original North Sea raiders.
Thanks so much, Eleanor, for the invite! We can’t wait to do it again!
